Hard-to-Fit Contacts

There are many different eye conditions that require specific kinds of contact lenses, but finding the right kind isn’t always easy. There are lenses designed for certain eye conditions, such as an astigmatism, dry eyes, keratoconus, etc. but comfort is a very important aspect of correcting your vision, so be sure to find lenses that fit your eye properly.

Soft Contact Lenses are typically the best option for most people. They allow the eye to breath and receive moisture, and can be helpful for people suffering from dry eye as well. Most of these lenses are disposable, so you can revive your eyes with a fresh pair of lenses whenever necessary. With so much going on in your child’s life it can be difficult to keep up with them but it’s important to make sure they can see the world in front of them as clearly as possible. Children should have their first eye exam around the age of six months. If the first exam shows their eyes are healthy, follow up with another appointment between the age of 2-3.

Although many schools offer annual eye exams, they are not complete visual exams and the results can be inaccurate. If you notice your child is having trouble with their vision, schedule an appointment with our doctor so he can address the issue and get them back on track. As with most conditions, early detection can make the solution much easier than waiting to see the doctor and allowing the problem develop into something worse.

Pay attention to these five symptoms as they can be related to vision problems for children:

  • Rubbing the eyes
  • Excessive blinking
  • Frequent squinting
  • Regular Headaches
  • Shutting one eye to focus

Even if eye problems do not run in the family and your child hasn’t displayed any of the symptoms above, they should visit the optometrist every year after the age of 3 to ensure their eyes are in good health. Eye Associates of Alexandria can address any questions you have regarding your child’s first visit to the eye doctor before the appointment so they know exactly what to expect. Our eye exams are complete, the practice is comfortable, and the appointment with our doctor will not take very long. Children need to experience their adventures in high definition and we are here to make sure they do!

Rigid Gas-Permeable Lenses are hard contact lenses that provide correction for very poor vision and conditions causing blurry vision, such as an astigmatism. The lenses provide very clear vision and will not slide on the eye as much as a soft lenses, but they aren’t as comfortable and can be a difficult adjustment. However, they are durable and can improve very poor eyesight to nearly 20/20 vision.

Toric Lenses are designed specifically for an astigmatism. They are made for both hard and soft contact lenses, which has been helpful for many people that have an astigmatism but have difficulty wearing hard lenses. Toric Lenses are the preferred contact lenses for people with an astigmatism.

It’s a great place to go! The staff is caring, courteous and interested in you as a person. Same with the doctors. And can’t say enough about technicians — they have done an amazing job finding frames that fit my face, my personality and that I love to wear! I recommend this place to my friends.

I have followed with Dr Jeremy Anderson for over 10 years now. Upon a new visit with him, it was discovered I have a nevus behind one of my eyes (nothing to be concerned about, thankfully). With the advanced technology Eye Associates has, I know nothing will be missed.

A few months ago, I saw Dr. Jeremy Anderson for an eye exam. Let’s just say, I cannot believe the improvement my new glasses have made for me! My family and I have used Eye Associates for years, and are very pleased with their expertise, customer service, and friendliness. They’ve been very helpful when problems have arisen (such as when frames or lenses were damaged and were replaced for free due to warranty). I fully trust them with my and my family’s eye care.

Just had my first visit at Eye Associates, who were recommended by a friend. All of the staff were wonderful, from checkin through checkout. Very nice, clean and modern facility with great service. Dr. Melissa Hoven was professional and informative, yet causal and friendly enough to make it the most comfortable eye exam I have had.
